Assuming it is the exact same size (area) you are scanning - you might want to check the settings and look at image quality. Maybe it somehow got changed. The higher the number (dpi) the better the resolution and the bigger the file. For example, I just did a test and scanned something at 180 dpi and the size was 40,000 bytes. The same scan at 300 dpi is 84,000 bytes.
