Fox and Crow Matchbook: Montgomery, OH

I found this great feature match recently. This plush supper-club is noted in TGT to have gaming about 50 years ago. Here's a clip from the Cincinnati paper regarding the closing of the restaurant several years ago:

Charley's shuttered

By Amy Culbertson, Post staff reporter

A piece of Cincinnati's high-rolling past has been lost with the closing of Charley's Oyster Bar & Grille in Montgomery.

Several sources on the local restaurant scene confirmed the restaurant's closing; the owners could not be reached for comment Wednesday, and calls to the restaurant went unanswered.

Formerly known as Charley's Crab and once the city's premier seafood spot, the restaurant had gone through several changes of ownership and management since its earlier days as the Fox and Crow, when it was one of the city's poshest supper clubs.

Imported caviar and duckling weren't all the Fox and Crow offered, either: In 1949 sheriff's deputies staged a midnight raid on the supper club.

Newspaper reports of the day described how the deputies burst into a gaming room where employees were trying to hide gambling equipment in a secret room behind sliding panels, glamorously dressed patrons tried to pretend they were playing bridge and pop star Kitty Kallen kept on singing.

Gene Trimble also mentioned The Fox and Crow in his article on the Arrowhead Club in Chequers back in 1999. You can see the article by following the link below.
