I have sent and recieved high value packages of banknotes and have assumed that Registered mail is actually tracable as it passes from stop to stop. While this does not replace an item, it telles you where it 'went away'. Plus I have found it gets BETTER handling. Insurance on banknotes is tricky, as they do not insure cash.
I have lost chips in the mail (never a banknote) but the poll asked if an 'insured' chip was lost. I have never lost anything insured, registered or delivery confirmation so I pay extra on stuff the is irreplaceable of expensive. Lost chips have amounted to common low value chips.
I too am of the belief that the postal workers are basicly honest and trustworthy, and its probably the machines that inflict most of the damage and loss. (I know there HAS to be a few dishonest people here and there. But those are the exceptions.) Sending an item in inadequate packing such as a standard envelope dosn't help much either.
