Dating Casino Playing Cards

An earlier posting about dating cards really peaked my interest. I used to really be up on the dates of playing cards made by USPC. Right now I am a little foggy - but I did create this nifty Excel spreadsheet tonight which I will keep updating when I can confirm dates. Dates of manufacturer and dates of use by the casino could be different.

Some general tips on dating playing cards....

Are the red pips dark (diamonds, hearts) - In approx 1985 when video surveillence starting coming online the b/w cameras could not read the red cards, so manufacturers started making the reds darker. However lately I have seen some casinos revert to a lighter red. Most likely because of better camera technology.

Generic packaging started appearing in about 1989.

Did the casino mark the inside flap of the deck with a date of use?

Are there marking like Tech Art or black retangel markings by some of the pips - These started appearing on cards used for BJ in the mid 1990's so the dealer can use a device to read the hole card without the possibility of exposing the cards value to other players.

Confirming logo use is another good way to help date playing cards.

And of course USPC dating codes for Bee, Casino Club and Aristocrat Cards.

If anyone wants a copy of the Excel spreadsheet which I will updating feel free to e-mail me
