THANKS for all the responses!

Thanks everyone for giving me your thoughts on this topic! I appreaciate all the responses.

Here's the outcome:

Joe, a friend of mine, was Player #4.
I was player #5 and seated to his left.

I was already out of the hand by the time the raise was made and action came back around to Joe. He folded and did not call the raise but flashed the cards to me right before he mucked them.

Flop came with with two nines. Player 7 came out betting after the flop and through all betting rounds. Player 10 called him down.

Player 7 had AA.
Player 10 had QQ.

I agree that 89 suited is not a strong starting hand but I personally would have called to at least see the flop since the pot was $34 and would have then quickly get out of the way if it didn't hit.

As Steve Zacchi suggested, I thought Player 7 might have been on a steal. I've found many times in $3-$6, the pot will get raised when the kill is on. I prefer to raise myself instead of limping when I am the first person to enter the pot. Player 10 was overly tight and very predictable though. Everytime he played he had a strong starting hand and since he called a raise during a kill hand, I had him figured for something big.

Joe was of the opinion that the pot odds and EV for the pot going against two opponents did not justify him calling the raise especially given the players he was up against.

Sounds like he probably was correct based on the feedback.

Thanks again! (I'm sure this makes him feel better grin).
