A large number of the two limited edition $5 chips were defaced by an angry local chip dealer while holding them for the rich speculator who bought them as an investment.
The story as told to me is the dealer was holding the chips in his safe while the speculator was on vacation. The dealer was angered by something, and to get even he defaced all the chips he was holding for the speculator.
A friend who knows both parties said four hundred of each were defaced. One of the cage personnel told me three of one and two hundred of the other. Whatever the true number. It is a lot of chips ruined.
There were none in the cage when I asked if they had any left. People do return some from time to time.
The defaced chips are sitting in the vault until it is decided how to destroy them.
