Re: Harrahs ENTERTAINER Match Varieties

I've got matches grin to the upper left pair Don. Ran across this one that I didn't remember having, that must predate the entertainer sets. There is no mention of a hotel or showroom, just "24 hour resturant". I'll look up those opening dates another time.

This must have been one or similar to the Harrah's matches that the PR dept. distributed throughout northern Nevada. They had a panel truck marked "Harrah's" and would stop at all the motels and drop off Harrah's matchbooks and ashtrays. They would also point out that they were the friends of the little guy moteliers as they weren't in the room business like Riverside and some of the other joints in Reno. Of course, the gladhanding was nice but not having the expense of suppling smokers in those days meant a little something more for the motel's bottom line. The PR dept. was also proud of the tag line "I hit the jackpot" as using the words "gambling" or "gaming" was frowned upon by Gaming in that era, not permitted! When Harrah did open his hotels in Reno and Tahoe, they were priced at a different price range and did not compete directly with motels either. Of course the Tahoe hotel had the decadence of two bathrooms, a Wm. Harrah idea!
