Re: See "Chip-Chat" #23 For The Reason...

Well.... OK. For those who don't subscribe to DougSaito's interesting newsletter and auction guide, I've scanned below the piece of issue 23 (Sept. 2001) where these ABC chips are offered.

There may be reason to believe these are 1970 Showboat bowling chips, but the evidence is not in the newsletter. All I see is that he, BruceL, and PhilJ (whose chips are being auctioned) "were always told that they were" bowling chips from Showboat and American Bowling Conference. Doug also uses the words "purported to be" and "fairly certain", qualifications he doesn't often use when he's sure of an attribution. He also values them at about $11 each, pretty cheap for 30 year old Showboat chips (but in line with how I'd value them as ad chips).

The decision of how to collect these is, of course, up to each chipper, but they will go in my Advertising Chip binder as American Broadcasting Co. I'd suggest to TCR authors that if these chips continue as Showboat listings that they have the "attributed to" slogan included as is usually done for questionable entries. No offense intended Doug.
