Great Moments in Chipping-New Comstock $1.00 Found

While I was in Reno a week ago, I stopped into the Comstock Antique Mall which is on the first floor of the old Comstock Casino/Hotel building. To my delight, I gazed upon two $1.00 chips from the Comstock Casino that I had never seen before. I wasn't aware that there were even these chips ever being used! I gladly paid the mere $3.00 each for them, along with a post card and like a child with a fantastic new toy, walked away on cloud nine with a happy little skip in my strut.

I got home, and started doing my chip thing and then today I went to look them up in the TCR. Then...OMG...an unlisted Comstock chip. Too Cool! Now, I thought, i have something for the TCR 10. But wait a minute, how could a chip not be well known and be from the Comstock. The chips had obvious wear from use. Okay, I thought, I'll just check out Paul's Silver State Treasures. Surely he'll have a scan. I did, and he didnt!

WOW! I can only imagine what these babies could be worth! Then, logic slipped in. I wonder. I wonder could there be another Comstock Casino and it was just a strange twist that the chips were being sold at the Comstock Antique Mall? There is a mountain on the chip. So I thought, Sierra Nevada Mountains right? I looked more. I finally decided to check the California Card rooms online. There it was! The same design on the 0.50 and 0.25 chips. There wasn't a $1.00 shown, but it was without a doubt the same design. DAMN!

So much for my most excellent new find. However, on q happy note, I have a chip that I hadnt seen before and it fits right in to my california collect. Of course I have this great story to tell of "Great Moments In Chipping"

I'll attach the scan in the next post.
