After reading all the hullabaloo about Panzica's auctions, I decided to take a look. Immediately my eyes were drawn to an 18K Raymond Weil tank watch. I happen to have a Raymond Weil watch and think they're great.

If you read the description, 18K is mention several times. With a minimum bid of $199 I was thinking of bidding. Luckily I noticed in one of the scans showing the back of the watch, the words "18K Gold Electroplated" appears.

I'm no expert but doesn't that mean that the watch is really made of some base metal that has been dipped in gold?

I can forsee a very unhappy bidder winning this lot.
