I worked with a Veteran who told me an easy way to remember Be My Little General which equals
Brigadier General 1 star
Lt. General 2 stars
Major Genreal 3 stars and
General 4 stars.

I don't know the history but it helps me keep it straight when I see the stars on their collars etc.
