Is it Just Me? ....... OR (NCR)

Does it seem really odd to anyone else to be watching the play-by-play action of the war on CNN (and elsewhere)? I have asked myself this and I am sure others have as well. I realize we have had reporters and photographers covering the wars throughout history. But, ‘Live Coverage’ from atop a hotel in Baghdad while buildings are blown up just down the street seems a bit strange to me. Yes, I am interested in what is going on just like the next guy, but not if it compromises of the safety of our forces. As I remember the last time we bombed Iraq, both sides used CNN’s reporting until Iraq finally shut down/limited their transmissions. With global media coverage, where Bush and Saddam both transmit messages to the world I am also amazed at many reporter’s persistence of asking questions that would compromise the security of our forces when they know ‘everyone’ is listening. I can see how this type of war coverage could be used to our advantage psychologically against the enemy by only showing their devastation and U.S. war propaganda. Another thing that seems odd to me is the ‘Live Coverage’ from aboard naval ships. I don’t recall this being done before. With the advent of ‘surgical strike’ weapons that can pick the window it goes through and yet spare the surrounding areas will this eventually lead to grand stands and box seating for high paying spectators? I am seeing correspondents being cut for station identification and commercial messages. What’s next, half time ceremonies? War has changed. Unfortunately, the part where people are killed hasn’t. These are strange times!!
