"Then & Now"... a new series of chip pairs...

Thanks to an excellent suggestion from Rich Hanover, this is the first post in a new series of "then & now" pairs of chips.

The previous series consisted of an old chip and a current chip from the same casino scanned side by side for comparison.

This new series will showcase an old chip from a now-defunct casino, and a new chip from the casino that took the older establishment's place. This could simply reflect an ownership/name change, or (as in the case of the Sands and the Venetian) an older building being demolished and replaced by an entirely new operation.

In his e-mail suggesting this idea, Rich gave as an example: "Then - Bingo Palace; Now - Palace Station (replaced the Bingo Palace in 1984)."

I'm sure there are tons of examples, not only in Las Vegas, but in Reno, Atlantic City, etc. - I'll post a new pair everyday until I run out of chips or ideas, and your suggestions are welcome! grin - enjoy.

The legendary Sands opened in 1952 at 3335 Las Vegas Boulevard South and was closed in 1996. The Sands was leveled to make room for the Venetian which opened in 1999 at the same location.
