David;
The convention center is next to the Gaslamp area which has many, many restraunts, clubs, etc to try So you should have plenty of places to eat. Try Cafe 222 for breakfast, Try Croce's for food and tunes(run by the late Jim Croce's wife). Also the bar from the movie Top Gun is just a couple of blocks from the convention center, I think it is called "Texas BarBQ" but I am not sure of the exact name. In the lobby of the convention center is a desk run by the con/vis group and they have all kinds of maps, menus, lists etc.
I am sorry say no casinos or card rooms near the convention center.
If you are going to be at Harrah's/Rincon for a few days I think there is now a shuttle bus that runs between several of the North Co. Casinos. At least Harrah's, Valley View, Pauma and Pala, I think mainly intended for workers but I think anyone can pay and ride if you do not have a car.
If you have any other SD questions let me know.
