chips@face list answers

There has been some confusion lately regarding the chips@face list requirements.

I think it’s time to reissue the rules for the chips@face list. Since the beginning, we have had many new members join the CC>CC and the Chipboard (none of which, by the way, is a requirement to belong to the chips@face list.

First, let me list the reason or background for the list.

We are very fortunate to have quite a few people to provide a new chip service in most of our major casino locations. These new chip services are a “for profit” business run by members of the CC>CC for the benefit of those chippers who do not live in the area where the chips are distributed. I, for one, avail myself to these services and without them could never accumulate the number of different chips in my collection.

I subscribe to a Las Vegas chip service as well as Atlantic City, Colorado and Washington State and would love to subscribe to other services if they were available for cruise ships and foreign chips. I live approximately 2 hours from Reno and therefore get those chips myself and a for few others in the local area, otherwise I would also find a source in Reno as well.

Now, let me make it perfectly clear to everyone that I am all in favor of these new chips services and they all deserve reasonable compensation for their effort to obtain these chips. You see, they don’t have the luxury the rest of us have in so much as they are on a time schedule just like any business. For many issues, they must get in line and sometimes wait long hours and in some instances repeat this process until they amass all the chips they need for their customers. Some of the casinos are not on the beaten tract and they must travel to get them. Bottom line without going into all the details, they earn their money.

Then, there are the rest of us. The ones who don’t live in Las Vegas, or near Reno, Atlantic City, Central City or Seattle etc. But sometimes, maybe even only once a year, we do get a chance to visit a “local casino” that issues chips

The normal feeling for these infrequent casino visitors would be to buy some extra chips and then resell them to others for a few dollars more which might help defray some the expenses of their trip. This is all well and good, but if they were to sit down and keep records of just how many chips they sold from those few visits compared to the amount of chips they bought from others all over the country for the year with the same thought in mind, they would find that they are spending a heck of a lot more than they were receiving.

Thus was born the chips@face list.

Sure, I could make a couple of dollars a chip plus handling fees but in turn, I guarantee I would pay out a lot more.

These are the simplicities of the list as I see it. Any comments will be welcome.

1. We are NOT affiliated with or a separate chapter of the CC>CC or will we ever seek to be. There are no officers, no offices, no written rules, no by-laws, no membership dues, no official meetings or get together’s. No Logo, no newsletters, no nothings. Just a group of people willing to abide by an unwritten code.

2. For those that feel they wish to sign on the list, they promise that they will not sell any CURRENT chips that they themselves obtained from any casino at face value to anyone else on the list for more than face value plus actual shipping cost (including bubble mailers, stamps etc.) or $1.00 whichever is greater. No one is expected to lose money (no matter how little.)

3. People on the list are not restricted against selling current chips on e-bay as well but should offer these chips to others on the list first. If you find they have too many and can’t sell enough to others on the list, then get rid of them any way you wish.

4. No one is obligated to sell any chips to anyone if he is not able to personally procure chips from any casinos.

5. If you do happen to visit a casino, you are not obligated to provide everyone else on the list with chips but hopefully, you will get a few extra for others. It is understood that many of you cannot afford to outlay a lot of dollars up front, pay all the expenses and wait for repayment. Maybe you can afford an extra $2.00 or $5.00, maybe not. Remember, you are not obligated to get chips for others as they will do for you, but it would be a nice gesture. Just be sure that if you do get some extra chips, the people on the chips@face list gets first option.

6. You are only expected to get (1) one chip of any denomination for the people on the list. If anyone wants more, then you are free to charge whatever you wish.

7. Please keep in mind that this chips@face list refers to CURRENT chips only. This is not to say you can’t offer obsolete chips for face as well, but it is not expected.

8. Remember, you are NOT expected to sell for face value chips you did not personally obtain from your local casino or ones you visited on vacation EVEN IF THEY ARE CURRENT.

9. The signers of this list are all collectors. It is not open to dealers as they can’t abide by the provisions as stated above unless they wish to go bankrupt immediately. If you sign on and in the future you feel the list is too restrictive or you don’t think you are receiving enough benefit, you are free to remove your name anytime. Ross Poppel has provided means in which to do this.

I expect I forgot a few things--- maybe many, so if anyone has any comments one way or the other, please submit them.
