The Chip Board Archive 08

I need your input...

Please take a couple of minutes to read this... I am conducting a bit of research here to see if any chippers would be interested in the following...

Problem Definition: no central, easy-to-use method to publish your traders online (where they can be easily found) or to allow you to easily locate chips online that you need.

Problem Solution: Envision a web site, similar to eBay, where you could log-in to your account and create a Traders List (complete with scans) and a Want List. These lists would then be entered into a central database where hundreds of other chippers' traders/wants are listed. Then you could click a single button and the site would display all of the chips in the database from other chippers' Traders Lists that matched your Want List - complete with all the details about the chips - including scans - and their email address so you can contact them. Does that sound like an easy way to find the chips you need? No more having to manually find and search dozens of different sites on the net looking for an elusive chip.

Now imagine not even having to log-in to the site to be notified when a match is found on your Want List. Imagine receiving an email notifying you that someone just posted for trade that 1962 Four Queens Arrodie you've been hunting for months. And you were notified the instant it was posted so you can have first dibs on it.

Now imagine hundreds of other chippers having the same access to your Traders List and with the click of a button they can find chips off your list that they need. Imagine logging into your site and posting that old $1 Excalibur that you can't seem to give away and 5 minutes later you get an email from a new chipper who thinks it's the coolest chip he's ever seen and is dying to trade you for it.

Now imagine being able to enter a search criteria such as "Dunes" and being able to instantly view all the Dunes chips that chippers have for trade - much like you do today on eBay - except they're not exclusively for sale! You can make trade offers on them.

Does this sound like something you'd be interested in? Does it offer enough value that you'd consider paying a small monthly fee or perhaps an annual membership fee, to help cover its expenses? It's something that I'm considering building for the hobby, and if I get enough positive feedback here, I'll move forward with it.

Please let me know what you think of this idea. I'm looking for all feedback - positive and negative.
