An Answer From Ebay Re: Fraud Email

This is long, but the entire email I received from Ebay regarding the email I received requesting personal info.

Hello,

Thank you for writing to eBay regarding this email you received.

After careful review we have determined that this email was not sent by
eBay. By altering the reply-to address for this email, it may appear to
have come from an eBay email address, when it actually did not. This
process is commonly referred to as "Spoofing".

Please remember that eBay will never ask you for private information,
including credit card information or passwords, in an email. We will
never send you to a link outside of eBay for entering credit card or
other private information. If you ever need to give us information, we
suggest that you go to the eBay home page (www.ebay.com) and follow the
links there to the site map page. By doing it this way, you can be
certain that you are giving your information to us and not to a third
party.

If you have not submitted any information, then your account will be
safe and unaffected. If you have entered your user ID, password or
credit card information as requested, we recommend that you take
additional steps to protect your information. If you would like
assistance in this matter we will be happy to give you more information
on what steps you may wish to take, including a list of agencies that
can assist you in protecting your information from being used for
fraudulent purposes.

In addition, you will need to immediately change your eBay password
following the steps below:

* Click on the site map link (located at the top of any eBay page).

* Under the 'Services' column, scroll down to the 'My eBay'
section.

* Click on the link 'Change my password'.

* Once you are on the 'Change your password' page, follow the
instructions that appear there.

We are currently investigating the source of the email. Although we are
unable to provide specific information regarding the result of our
investigation, let me assure you that eBay does take these matters
seriously. We work closely with ISPs to remove these sites quickly.

In the future if you receive a similar email, do not respond to it.
Please forward the email to spoof@ebay.com. Be sure to only send it as a
forward as all other types of email will be rejected. If you are unable
to forward the email, then you may report it to us through the webform
below:

We have found that the majority of the recipients of these types of
email are those members that are using or have used their email address
for their user ID. eBay recommends that all members have a user ID. If
your user ID is currently your email address you may change it by from
the 'My eBay' area as mentioned above. Changing your user ID will not
cause you to lose your feedback. All of your account information will be
transfer seamlessly to the new ID.
