Hey Brian, in my opinion. Scanning is better. I scan my images at 120dpi and save them in .tiff format. Tiff is the highest resolution you can save at. So you can always crop down but never up in image quality. Ive talked to steve wells about this before and for his book and also from a few publishing poeple who Ive talked to they prefer the .tiff format to work with so they can scale down to .BMP or JPG if needed. They are typically large files so have alot of space.
