Nevada Small Town of the Day

I was only in Fallon, Nevada once. I took a couple of days off and went on a chip run in the north western part of Nevada. I stayed in Reno and on one day I went to Lake Tahoe and then to a few small towns south of Lake Tahoe. On the 2nd day I went to Virginia City and then east to Fallon then north to Gardnerville on route 95 and finally back to Reno.

I remember Fallon as being more like the old west than any place else I visited. It is known as being the home of the Top Gun pilot training school, as noted on the chip from the Fallon Nugget. Most of the casinos were actually old time bars with a bunch of ancient nickle and quarter slot machines against the wall. I remember seeing just a single blackjack table in a few of these joints. They were covered up and there was no way a chip was to be had. The games might open on a Friday or Saturday night, if there were enough folks around. I didn't spend much time there, but if you are looking for the old west, you might find it in Fallon.
