...and the reason being is that the postage served the purpose it was intended for.

The above was explained to me by a 334-- postmaster who also explained why clear tape is not permitted over affixed postage.

Also; the USPS will replace any stamp if damaged (wet; stuck together). All they require is that you glue (or tape) the damaged stamps to white paper.
