I disagree, JB ...

...

>> It's a wonderful feeling knowing that any club member can buy-sell-trade

Unlike Gene and others, I would support a total ban of slabs at the convention and in all club venues.

And I completely disagree with this suggestion:

>> It would be an even more wonderful feeling if those who may wish to
>> exhibit slabbed educational material at our convention were at
>> least able to submit to the Exhibit Chairperson what all their exhibit
>> entailed so it can be reviewed.... but, to firmly say no slabs will
>> be exhibited is a backwards move by our board... and I can
>> only hope our new board will consider "exceptions to the rule."

The only way slabbed material can exist (for "educational" or any other purposes) is if there is an active slabbing company. There can only be an active slabbing company if they can make money slabbing chips. The only way that can happen is if there is an active market for them. As we've seen with coins, the only way that can happen is if there is a constant supply of new material being slabbed (and/or "churning" of previously slabbed material in hopes of catching a higher grade to increase the "value" of the chip).

Fortunately, it appears that there currently isn't much of a market for slabbed chips (see "The List").

You are prepared to embrace slabbing. I would prefer to slay it in its infancy and would support any club measure which would help do so. The only "exception" I am willing to accept appears at the bottom of every one of my posts.

BTW, is an "educational" exhibit any less "educational" when the chips are contained in airtites rather than slabs??

>> I fully agree that a showcase loaded down with either slabs or pictures of slabs
>> without any descriptions as to why they're being exhibited serves no educational purpose.

Well, I agree with that! grin

>> I will continue to express my opinion on this issue whenever and
>> wherever I feel it's appropriate to do so.

Me, too. ----- jim o\-S
