Thanks for all the advice everyone. Because we're only there for 4 days I wasn't sure whether to rent a car because I'm gonna be gambling, laying in the sun and catching up on some sleep (just a bit Kerry!) and I can do that from the Paris and surrounding area.

The only things I plan on heading off-Strip for on this visit is to visit the Palms and maybe other casinos if there were any new releases of interest. And although car rental doesn't seem that expensive in the US, your insurances are way high, so unless I need a lot of driving it's gonna be taxis this time - and of course, Al did make the most important point - taxis mean I can take advantage of the free drinks while I lose my cash!
