Chip Story #1 8/7/02

I remember a series of postings we had about cancelled Reno Monte Carlo chips almost 2 years ago. Someone said all the chips had been cancelled with a stamp but some folks had removed the cancellations. I had just acquired this $1 chip and had my nose out of joint because as I pointed out, thorough examination showed my chip to be pristine and since TCR rated both cancelled and uncancelled chips, I had no problem representing mine as uncancelled. I created the scan below to illustrate my point at the time. The latest Chip Chat, #27, discusses the Monte Carlo, the "TK" initials and the cancellation. The overstamped chips were sold from the gift shop of the host Holiday Inn after MC ceased. Still feeling pretty smug about my chip I did what I usually do when chips I have are referenced in some way in Doug's pub, add a notation to the chip's file of Chip Chip number. Well guess who I bought my All-American apple pie beauty from! David Whalen, noted "chip craftsman"!!!! rofl Now I don't even know if it's even a genuine casino chip or a typical Whalen hand-hewn lump of dung. mad Oh well, another entry in the "notorious" chip file.
