Re: Jeez, Jay...
In Response To: Jeez, Jim... ()

I'd sure be interested in any of the $5's, $1's and fractionals that are uncancelled, mint condition and less than face value. Any suggestions as to where I can find just one of each?

I believe your comment is trying to suggest that the value of the $5 Money Tree chip, with the "W" over-stamp will be something less than the TCR value for the un-marked version, and I tend to agree.

However, the posts have greater relevance than just a generalization. I know nothing of the Money Tree and it's associated chips and for all I know the authors of the TCR (and the C/W Guide for that matter) are not familar with this particular situation.

Both guides handle cancelled chips a bit differently. The C/W Guide stipulates that a cancelled chip has a built-in percentage amount of devaluation (the number escapes me right now), however, I do not know the "W" to be a cancellation.

As far as the TCR is concerned and whether or not "we" need an entry for cancelled chips, let me say this.... The authors often include duplicate entries of a chip where there is a cancelled version, and also a value of the cancelled version. In this instance they have not, and I am just bringing this to their attention.

In the other thread, Jenny has asked what the value might be, and although I too am interested in the value, I am more interested in the how and why of the "W".

Since the over-stamp is not readily visible, it is quite possible that the mix (the ratio of over-stamped to non- over-stamped) may be 1000 to 1, but then again it might be 1 to a 1000, or even 50/50. If by chance it is one of the extremes, then perhaps the valuation of the chip in the TCR is erroneous.

Are you familiar with the over-stamp I talking about?

Thanks,

Jim Follis
