Bob,
I have had an Olympus D-400 Zoom for several years now and have been very happy with it. It's only 1.3 megapixel, with a 3x optical zoom. If I were buying a camera today, I would probably go with the D-550 Zoom (Olympus) which is a 3.0 MP, 10x optical/digital zoom. It's a 'point-and-shoot' camera, with software that is VERY easy to use.
My biggest problem is that nothing is wrong with my D-400 so I can't see investing the ("suggested retail") $499 in the new one. Now if I were to accidentally drop it on the sidewalk......
Here is a link to the Olympus D-550 page if you are interested:

(hope the link works....if not, just go to www.olympus.com and do the obvious clicking to get to their camera choices)
