From my experience, and what I have heard, with this virus it is possible that Jill does not have it. It is believed to infect someones computer and take names from one of a few possible places and send itself. Could be outgoing email address? Incoming email address or an address book. You and Jill could be in the infected person's email book, could have recently received a mail from that person or could have recently sent an email to that person. Rather than giving it's location away by sending to Jill it can get your name and her name from a source and send itself to you using Jill's email address giving the illusion it came from her. That is, appearently, what is making this virus so difficult to determine how wide spread it is. Also I have a suspicion of the possibility that it could be getting names from BBs, Newsgroups or groups like TCB and then sending to people. All I know, is that I got it from someone who wasn't anywehere near his computer at the time it was sent. I have never, to my knowlege sent him mail, He, I don't think has ever sent me anyting before. At least not recently. I don't think there is any reason I would be in his address book. I suppose he and I could have both received a chip order or email from someone else though? Also, he had scanned his computer and was clean. I have updated all my virus definitions and scanned mine and am fine. I never actually got infected since I didn't open the attachment and simply deleted it. DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS, EVEN FROM THOSE YOU KNOW. First contact the sender and see if they did send the file and knows what it is. Unless, of course, you are expecting the file. I recognized the sender and opened the mail. What made it suspicious is the odd file name and the fact that the letter had NO TEXT. It was a blank mail from a friendly person that had a file I didn't recognize and that I had no reason to expect.
Also, everyone should scan your computer to see if you are infected. Even if you, at this time do not have reason to believe you are. I heard some reports and read an alert that said it is a time release virus that strikes on a certain date or dates. You may not know it until it is too late. I can't remember all the details but did see a report, I think on FOXNEWS this weekend. It said the threat risk on this(?) virus has been upgraded due to the fact that they can't get a handle on how wide spread it is. There are also variants that vary in the severity of damage. It was supposed to hit on July 13th but there could also be other trigger dates. I tried running the info I had through Symantec and McAfee a few weeks ago and neither recognized the information in their database. I found confirmation through a deja search. If there is still so much unknown about this I would be really careful out there.
Good luck all, Keep Safe.
