That is correct. When you post an item on eBay for sale, you should get a confirmation email from them pretty quickly saying the item was accepted and listed.
Also in your "my ebay" page, you should see the item under your selling tab right away. I would suggest that you review your "selling" page. If the item is not there, then I would suspect that it was not accepted when you submitted the listing.
eBay does perform some data validations on the values that you enter into that form. It is possible that they may have presented you with a page saying something was missing and you missed it. It can be confusing. There are some fields that eBay requires you to complete on that form. Also, I found an item/form was not accepted when my values contradicted each other (i.e., I had indicated buyer was to pay a fixed shipping charge but did not complete the box giving the dollar amount).
Some people have indicated that it does awhile before the item will appear on eBay. This is true when doing an eBay "search". My experience has been after sometimes up to an hour later, my listing finally started showing up. Without exeception though, you will find the item listed on your "my ebay" page right away.
