It helps, but only a little. I recommend a little freeware program called "Mail Washer." You can preview email before you let your email program download it from the server. You can mark mail as friend or blacklist, either by individual sender address or domain.

One of the best things about it is that I can delete unwanted, possibly virus laden mail before it ever reaches my drive. It has been so helpful that I sent the author real money for it, even though not required.
