Has anyone seen these chips before? “Comic Chips”, manufactured by Federal Premium Mfg. Co. of Chicago. I’ve seen similar chips on eBay, but have not seen the package. The chips are thin plastic, about 1 3/8” diameter. The package is slightly larger than a book of matches, about 1 1/2” x 2 1/16” x 1/8”, and opens like a matchbook. The scan shows the inside of an opened package, the chip, and the front & back of the package. The other side of the chip shows the cartoon Confucius with the words, “Confucius Say”. The chips are imprinted with the manufacturer’s name and a 1967 copyright date. This is shown in the scan, but is probably hard to read. On the edges of the package (not shown in the scan) are printed, “Be the ‘Laugh of the Party’? and “Hundreds of Different Proverbs

These are probably some type of dime store item and are definitely not real poker chips, but are interesting anyway. I opened one package to make the scan. All the other packages are still sealed in the manufacturer’s original cellophane. I have no idea what “proverb” is on each chip, or if the chips are different colors.

I found a box of these today on an antiquing road trip to New Hampshire’s Monadnock Region. (No other chips… bummer, but I did have a great cigar on the way home.) I thought I’d share my find. at $3 each, or two for $5, postpaid. Please email your mailing address if interested.
