So, let's see ...

... if I'm a dealer and I have something to sell, I'd rather not make that information known to members who happen not to be able to attend the convention??

Doesn't track for me, John. If the coupon is for a show "special", of course, it won't be possible to use it after the fact. But, if it contains other information (maybe nothing more momentous than, "hey, I'm selling chips"), it seems to me that it would be to the advantage of the dealers to have that information distributed any time.

Yes, a potential problem. But, if we all just never did anything which had potential problems, not much of anything would ever get done. And this one is relatively easy to solve by having the member notify the appropriate person (Jim Steffner?) in advance who is authorized to pick up the package. For example, I would tell Jim that Paul Sax can pick up my packet. Paul provides appropriate ID and gets the packet. Then, if there is a problem it's between me and Paul.

I can't believe there are going to be that many people missing the convention that it would be an onerous burden. To relieve possible problems early in the convention, you could make it permissible to pick up someone else's package only on Friday or Saturday (when the registration table won't be very busy anyway, I would think). And, since this would require prior notification (except perhaps for last minute emergencies), the packets for expected non-attendees could even be separated in advance and kept at a special table.

>> Not to mention who is to keep track of who would be allowed to pick up your package.
>> Way too much work for our VOLUNTEERS. KISS people! (Keep it simple, stupid)

KISS is for stupid people, John. I don't think our volunteers are stupid (or that they couldn't, with a reasonable exercise of common sense, figure out a way to make it work).

Anyone know what percentage of pre-registrants typically do not attend? I'd be amazed if it's much more than 5%.

It's easy to say, "oh, that's too (much work) (hard) (difficult) (time consuming)". Maybe it's my military background, but I'd much rather see/hear a "can do" attitude and some effort made to work something out.
