Only bits and pieces of what I remember may in fact be true but as I recall King George I through King George III (or maybe IV) were from the Royal House of Hanover from whence came the House of Windsor. The name changed to Windsor (I think) when Victoria ascended the throne. Under Hanoverian law a woman could not rule.

In fact the first three Georges did not speak English (only German). I guess it's easy to understand how crazy King George III lost the Americas. No one knew what the heck he was saying.
