Re: Can anyone recommend a Business Card Program?

Do you have any software like Microsoft Word, Wordperfect, Adobe Photoshop...???

I haven't found a template in Photoshop but you can measure a business card and goto FILE then NEW and plug in the dimensions. You can import artwork or create your own. You can even add the text within the program. I found though that some of the text doesn't look as nice when printed out as if you were to do it through Word. I may be doing something wrong though.

On a similar project that I did, this is how I handled it. I was creating a Face Label for a VHS Videotape. I went into Photoshop as mentioned above and created a color logo for the tape that I produced. I tried to put the title and text on it but it came out a little gray and just didn't look right. So, since I was working with layers, I deleted the text layers and simply kept the logo. I then saved that as a .jpg and inserted into a Microsoft Word document and typed the text under it. Word has a selection called TOOLS. Then select ENVELOPES AND LABEL. Select the tab that says LABELS. You will see a small picture of a label near the bottom of the window. Click on it and you can select from a whole list of different labels including a Business Card Template. Look for the number for the Avery Business Cards. Then, choose NEW DOCUMENT or something like that and you will have a table that is formatted as business cards. Each card is a different CELL within a TABLE. You can then select INSERT and PICTURE. It will then ask where you want to get the picture. You will probably be taking it from another FILE. Browse through and find the graphic file and insert it into your card. If needed, you can resize and do some minor adjustments to your image like alignment, brightness(?) etc. Then type in your text portion. I am not sure of all the different things you can do, I am new to it myself, but you poke around and find a lot of stuff to do. Once you have 1 card finished, simply highlight it and copy and paste it to the other cards (cells) in the template.

Like I said, I don't know if you have the software I mentioned. They are, especially Photoshop, pretty powerful and expensive programs. You might have Word though as it does come on many computers. If you are using WordPerfect, that should have similar capabilities and labels as well. Many other word processing programs might also have labels and the ability to design a basic business card. However, they may not offer you the ability to add custom graphics. You might need a graphics program in addition to word processing so that you can create the "clip art" to add to your documents.

You can go out and get, from a few different sources, business card stock that is perforated and ready to print and tear apart. Or, as I have done, you can go to your office supply store and select a nice heavy CARD STOCK and print your cards on that. I used Howard Linen Bright White. I haven't seen it near me lately but I used to like it a lot. It has a good texture. If you prefer colors, textures etc. choose your own and carefully cut it apart on a paper cutter. I used to print 2 or 3 sheets of cards and stop at my local KINKOS and cut them there.

I used to have a card program that I bought years ago. I don't remember the name but as you mentioned it had basic templates that I just didn't like. It was really very basic. Then I realized that I could just use WordPerfect and do so much more in there. Now, I have a new computer that came with Microsoft Word and I have been using that.

Hope this helps.

Here are a couple of examples of what can be done. The first was with a stock clip art and can probably be done with most word processing programs including WordPerfect and Microsoft Word. The bottom card is one that I created with a custom graphic produced in PhotoShop. I photographed my camera in front of a solid background and also photographed the balls. I then cut out those images and compiled them in PhotoShop and saved the graphic as a .jpg . Then I simply inserted that in MS Word and typed the rest.
