Hard Rock released these Sammy chips & made them hard to get for smart reasons. Publicity! Not to us collectors but to the high rollers these were meant for. It is their business to do what they want. We should be thankful for all the cool chips they have given us. More "cool" chips than any other casino. Be glad they don't make meaningless chips with no demand for the subject matter but only for rarity. When they "make up" chips for no reason but to make a chip & put a number of 100 limited on it then it's a problem. This type of chip has rarity but no demand.

I see mention of Bon Aire $5 chips originally posted below (see my new post above) saying nearly a box was found. The opininon is now they are worth $20. With 2 known it was valued at up to $1,500. This is a very in demand chip by those that seek to have a chip from every location in Vegas. An LE of 100 made for a chip not in demand for historical reasons or even a popular subject can go for well over face. Even if face is $100. 250 made for some casinos isn't even enough for all the collectors so the price remains high.

What does the denomination really matter on a chip where a low number is minted?
It is perceived value. Why not make a $500 or even a $2,000 face value chip that can sell for $2,000 or be cashed. Will it go for more than $2,000? I doubt it.
$5 chips are about the most popular maybe that is the "right" denomination to have a really rare chip in.

New chips cost about $1 to manufacturer. For HR or others to use these as promotional tools it is a super value to them especially when some sell for $2,000. Makes a happy customer I would say!

Basically collect what you like & can stomach to pay & if you don't get it all don't worry no one else will either. I have collected over 15 years & try to get all the Nevada chips, used to anyways, gave it up years ago as an impossible task. Was sure fun trying! Now I get what I like if I think the price is fair.
