Sorry Larry, I disagree. In the case of the Binion collection, the slab authenticates the provenance of the coin. There isn't anything in the Binion coins to distinguish them from 100's or 1000's of other coins with the same year and mint mark.

In the case of casino chips, a $5 chip from the Sands is different than a $5 chip from the Trop is different than a $5 from Caesars is different from a $5 from the Nugget.......and those who collect for a hobby are able to make their own judgements as to the condition of a chip.

Since we collect casino "stuff" for a hobby, the fact that our Binion coins are MS 63 means virtually nothing to us....the fact that they were part of the Binion "Hoard" is why we bought them.
One thing that I've heard against slabbing, is that the coin can be cracked out of the slab and be re-submitted, hoping for a higher grade. grin In the case of the Binion slab, the slab is (to a casino collector) as valuable as the coin!
