Regarding the BEAUMONT CLUB Chips I have just completed day two in “a couple hours’ at the library…

There was a sheriff named “James” who created quite a stir in our little town around 1958~1960. This was the same era that the Balanese and other Galveston clubs were getting busted up. He busted up the gambling, prostitution, and alcohol violations. I read through the blow-by-blow accounts of his reign thinking surely I would find plenty about the Beaumont Club. From yesterdays research I found that every Tom, Dick, and Harry that opened a club called it the Beaumont Club, these ranged from plush nightclubs and dinner clubs to some pretty sleazy beer joints fronting the prostitution going on in the back. The James Commission busted up a lot of these joints mostly running book, prostitution, or serving minors only one place kept popping up as being a plush casino with Sports book, Dice, Black Jack, and Poker. The name of it was Pen Yan Club they had it all (and I suspect their own chips)!

Sadly, I did not find the information I was looking for on the Beaumont Club chips. I did however spend the morning drifting down memory lane as many of the sleazy characters that were getting arrested I had known as a kid. One place I remember was “The Green Frog” this was the standard for low oops, I mean NO class beer joints! As a boy I can remember getting beer there (way under age ) and learning to see 360° at one time! You didn’t walk in that place not seeing in front and back of you at all times! A lot of the attorneys still in practice today, business people and public officials were caught in some ‘unbecoming’ actions amidst all of this rough shot wide open free for all! Beaumont and Mayberry did not share as quite as many 'Mom's apple pie' traits as I remembered! It is amazing to see the lists of names in the indictments and realize they are the same prominent families here today. Funny how things work out.

To get going here I think I'm going to need more than "Beaumont Club" .... got anything else? Year/address/names/picture/ anything? There are many Beaumonts besides Texas, I mignt be on a ghost hunt. (I made a note to myself NEVER collect ill-eagles! This is the pits. )
