Dialogue with a con-man? (from Jill's HAN Post)

See the dialogue with Rob the HAN chip seller below. Maybe he was mistaken about the real value, let's ask and see. These are the type people we often deal with on eBay ....

Mike: Do these have s 'book value' or a reference price? I am wondering what this might be worth? And do you have a scan?

Robert: This particular chip has sold for more than $300. Unlike other Hot August Nights Chips, the issue was restricted to only 500. It is in superb condition and I will guarantee its authenticity. If you are a casino chip collector, this is an excellent addition to your inventory. Unfortunately, I do not have a scanner to send you a photo but I have sold on e-bay before and have had no complaints about the items I have sold. Thank you for your interest in this item and please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Mike: I attached a picture. Is that the one?? ((I attached Jill’s eBay Picture)

Robert: yes, that's the one !!!!!!

Mike: You stated in your ad that it was a bargain for $225. Do these usually sell in that range? Please write back soon before item closes.

Robert: For casino chip collectors, it's a bargain at $300. Personally, I feel that is a little high as I am not into Casino Chip collecting; I'm more into silver and gold coins. I have seen these sell for over $300 on occasion and regularly at $225. The only reason I'm selling it is to see if I want to use e-bay on a regular basis to sell my coins; besides, I have 27 more of these chips anyway.

Mike: Thanks! I have some real gold coins, no clue to what they are worth, and so I sent a scan. Maybe we could set up a trade. I don't know what these are worth but most are from China and one is from France and one is from America. I have about 6 or 7 of each and the one from France (with the rooster) I have 14 of those. I put in the quarter so you could see how big they are (all are pretty small except the one from America) let me know if these are worth anything and if these are the kind of coins you collect. ((Sent a scan of a pile of gold coins))

Robert: what denomination is the liberty coin that is the size of a quarter ?

Mike: ((It was a ½ oz Liberty Gold Coin $25 Denomination)) Here is a bigger scan so you can see it better. It is the only one that has been circulated the rest are like brand new. Some one must have carried it in their pocket or something.

Robert: If you are wanting to trade this coin for the chip I advertised then we can make a deal. When would you like to make the trade ?

Mike: found this chip on ebay is it the same as yours (inserted link to Jill’s closed auction) and I was told these only sell for $15 to $18 not hundreds of dollars. Is that right? Is yours the same chip? If not, I will need your address if we swap.

Robert: I work at Harrah's in the cashier department. I know personally of this particular chip being sold for as much as three hundred dollars. If you can get this particular chip for $17 dollars, I suggest you buy it and hold on to it. There are three people I know who are trying to purchase them all and this will only drive the price up. It is one of my responsibilities to keep track of the market value of these chips for our internal controls so know what I'm talking about. As for trading one of my chips for your gold coin, I am still interested but only for one of my chips.
Let me know when you would like to make the trade.
My address is :
(( His Name & Address was here))

Thank you for the correspondence,

Anyone want to send old Rob a 1/2 Gold Eagle coin for a $5 HAN chip? Here's a REAL DEAL! rofl
