It's a "chantillain"...
In Response To: SO WADDA YA THINK IT IS? ()

... French word so I'm not sure of the spelling. Popular in the late 1800's & early 1900's. A lady would carry her calling cards in a small case attached to a chain. She would wear it on her wrist. Other items were sometimes worn on the chain too. I've seen small mechanical pencils, and very small bottles. The bottles would hold vinegar to dull the olfactory nerves when encountering something vulgar smelling-like a cigar.

This is a nice example. Is it silver?
