Re: Why $100s
In Response To: Re: What happened? ()

I don't buy them, I don't care if the casino makes one of a kind $1,000 chips, which I also wouldn't be able to afford. (If I could I still wouldn't want them) If they want to make $25 LE chips, I couldn't care less, I don't collect them. If they want to make LE $5 that are only 25 issued, I don't care!

I look at it this way Pete. If the casino makes a chip that comes out in sufficient numbers for most collectors who want it, to be able to get it, then I might consider one for the collection. Even 750 - 1000 seems a very reasonable number, baring the possibility of someone grabbing all of them.

My personal viewpoint of the $100 chips is, as long as people buy them, the casino will continue to make them. No matter what 98% of the chippers feel, or don't care, or don't collect, if they sell, they will be made.

I think the casino sees that making 25 - $100 chips means $2,500 return for a $125 risk. A profit of $2375 even time they churn out some new LE. I don't agree with the practice, but just look at the figures and you know why it happens. The bottom line, is the bottom line.

If they made a $100 chip and made 500 of them, the collectors sales would be insignificant. (how's the Babe Ruth chip holding up?) By limiting the Qty. to those who have the desire and the deep pockets, they are motivating the purchase to a very limited interest group.

Do I agree with special controlled issues, or false rariety? No. But the casino is in charge and wants a profit, so the best I can do is avoid them and ignore them.

Good Chipping!
