Ok Ralph, Try This....

Click on the Start Button
Find and click on Control Panel
Find and click on Sounds and Audio Devices
Click on the Sounds tab
Under Sound Schemes it should show "Windows Default"

If it does not show "Windows Default" then select and scroll down the list until you find and can select it.

Hit the Apply button. IMPORTANT: You will get a message saying "Your previous sound scheme has not been saved do you wish to save it?" Select NO otherwise you will be saving a sound scheme that is no good and it could cause you problems.

That should fix your sounds problem, If not please let me know.
