John, you are correct! My brother inlaw's cable access is slower in the evening hours than a 56K dial up modem but at 3 AM, it's really FAST.

Also, cable is not as secure due to the fact you are sharing band width with all your neighbors who have cable. With DSL, you have your own line running to the phone company's central office. This may not matter unless you are transmitting top secret data & you have a hacker living next door with cable.
