Re: A couple more Deep South illegals ID'ed

John & Steve:
Mississippi, Jackson (The Capital),
Hotel Walthall, 'Jackson's Most Convenient', 200 Rooms with Bath, Air-Conditioned, 1948-49, address: 225 E. Capitol St., rooms started from $2.50. (Notice Capitol St. vs. Capital City)
E.O. Spencer, Pres. & C.W. Miller, Resident Mgr.
Hotel gambling seems very hard to pin down. Did Kent and Condon run the games there or did they just live there? With orders of 1000 and 700 they were not playing at the Hotel kitchen table. Did the hotel know about gambling if it went on there? These were probably convention sucker fleecers, the state capital, businessmen away from home without the wife, a big bank roll, a few drinks (prohibition had just ended), a good time, a big game, probably a couple of babes, sounds like the movie 'The Sting' for poker or roulette vs. 'The Wire'. Illegals, what a rush. Happy Trails, DocF
