It sounds like you had a very bad experience but I doubt that the ships crew had any control over the closing of the port. If you travel a lot you realize that this sort of thing happens frequently. I can't count the number of times that they have said that our airplane flight was cancelled for no reason. In fact, at Christmas my wife was in Milwaukee visiting her relatives and was told that her flight home was cancelled due to bad weather here in Knoxville. When she called I said "What bad weather? It is 60 and sunny." She had to stay overnight and then when she got to the airport in the morning THAT flight was also unexplainably cancelled. They finally put her on a different airline.
