Or, as I mentioned to Archie in a recent email, maybe we can work together to refine and accept such a system for defining our chips when describing them to eachother and posting them in auctions etc. That way we could have some idea and comfort when buying via the net. Of course, as mentioned in the previous thread about Rich Hodges purchase of the Dunes Excavation chip we won't be able to get everyone to use such a system. There will still be a some people using their own subjective standards. However, for example, if I see an auction by a fellow club member, and that person indicates the standard he is using, I can bid with a little more confidance of what condition the chip is truely in.

Archie just sent me an email where he rightly pointed out that the clout our club has is valuable in that we as a group can have a positive impact on chip collecting with such a standard. If we innitiated a clear standard than others, even non members, might eventually adopt the same standard to describe their auctions. I think, especiallly if they realize that some 2-3000 collectors and BUYERS of chips are demanding that standard.
