Let me understand what you are saying....

James,

If I did not want an answer, I would not have asked the question.

Let me get this straight, you agree with all of the reasons that I give for believing the number of chips known to exist as listed in the chip guide but you disagree with the number the came up with?

You said you would answer my questions, so allow me to follow-up on some of your answers:

ME: "First, I never said that there were only 250 of these chips made. I said that according to the chip guide, at this time, fewer than 250 chips from "The Pit" are known to exist.

YOU: First of all, anyone claiming to know how many chips are still "floating" around would have to have all of them. I respect guesses like anyone else. However, some guesses have more quality than others.

I disagree! A person does not have to have all of the chips to come up with an estimate as to the number of chips THAT ARE KNOWN TO EXIST. Read what that says... KNOWN TO EXIST. This means the number that can be accounted for... it does not say that it is an absolute number of all chips that might exist. So, at the time the book was written, this is how many chips could be accounted for. If more are found, the book is updated and the number is changed. What is wrong with that?
--------------------------------------------------
ME: "Why do I think this is possible?"
YOU: I would like to read your explanation.

ME: "The Pit was a small club in a small town. As such, they would not have needed a large number of chips for their daily operation."

YOU: This statement is true. However, it would depend more upon how many games they offered.

Do you know how many games they offered? Do you know how many tables they had? Do you know the square footage of this club? I don't, but since you mentioned the number of game, you tell me. How many games did they offer? How many tables did they have?
--------------------------------------------------
ME: "Over the short time that they were in business, they used a total of 7 differnt chips. They had 2 issues of chips, 10¢, 25¢, and $5. In the second issue they added a $1.00 chip."

YOU: What you say is true. However, there could very well have been a third issue. No one at this time knows for sure.

Sure they COULD have had a 3rd issue and they could have a 4th, 5th and 6th issue sitting in a safe deposit box... but since no one KNOWS about them... they are not KNOWN TO EXIST and are therefore not included in the number of chips KNOWN TO EXIST as stated in the guide.
--------------------------------------------------
ME: "The chips are nothing special to look at. They are one color, hot stamp, C&J mold. They are not limited editions. There is no reason why anyone who visited the club would want to save large numbers of these chips."

YOU: A true statement. However, in my opinion they are great looking chips - but than again I collect small towns.

To me a chip is a chip.
--------------------------------------------------
ME: "The club was only open from 1960 to 1969. It closed not because the it went out of business, or because the owners sold it, but because the
club was destroyed by a fire."

YOU: True
--------------------------------------------------
ME: "I do not think that chip collecting was a big hobby in 1969 so I cannot imagine many people running into a burning club to scoop up large
quanties of these chips with the thought that someday they would be rare collectables."

YOU: Also true. However, please remember that the owner of the club could very well have saved the entire first issue after placing the second issue on the tables. The first issue could have been retired to his home storage area. Therefore, the first issue could still be around in it's enite quantity less "walkers".

Right... they COULD HAVE. But do you KNOW that they did take the whole first issue and put them in a safe deposit box? If you or anyone else does not KNOW this for a fact.. than the chips in the hypothetical safe box are NOT KNOWN TO EXIST.
--------------------------------------------------
ME: "A search of the WWW turned up no very little information about "The Pit" and NO sites that were offering to sell a chip from "The Pit". The
Chipman who claims to have 6,000 chips catalogued on his site does not even mention "The Pit" in his list of casinos."

YOU: I know the "chipman" and his lovely wife. Just because he currently does not have any for sale means nothing. Scott does have a vast inventory. I am sure far more than the 6000 he offers,

I have not had the pleasure to have met the "chipman". I am happy that you know him. I am sure that he is a gentleman his wife is indeed as lovely as you say. But, that has nothing to do with the list of casinos on his web site. I do not care if the chipman or his lovely wife have a chip from "The Pit" in their personal collection. My point is he does not even include a mention of the pit on his site that claims to have a cataloge of 6000 chips. To me this means that it was a small, easy to overlook club.

Since you seem to feel that the number of chips from The Pit that are KNOWN TO EXIST far exceedes the number quoted in the US Chip Guide, please tell me where I can buy some? Please point me to a site that has chips from The Pit for sale. Perhaps you are willing to part with some of yours? Just how many chips from The Pit do your have? 250? 300?

Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a good day!
