Re: Ethics question- much information.
In Response To: Re: Ethics question ()

If you want to privately email me I can tell you if the chips in question have been offered & if I have seen any recent sales. I probably get offered more chips than anyone. The info. would go no further. If you want I can advise you, if you know the condition, what 20 of any chip should reasonably sell for. If you want to sell quick & make collector friends happy there is one price if you want to tie up money & wait a couple years there is another price to ask. I say get them fairly & sell then fairly & it is good for all.

I recently picked up a good batch of $25 El Morocco Casino chips, from the strip. THey are nice & new & unc. so you can assume there is a box. First they said there wasn't but after talking I convinced them that the best way to sell is all or nothing I can't play games. When I met with them they brought me a full box & said we found them all. Ya right, they had them all all along. I ran them on ebay right away to get some money back. I felt I could at least sell 10 at just $25 each. Wrong, sold 5 or 6 only. Now will run them single every now & then.

See if you get part of a deal & think that is all & offer the chips around & then someone get's the same deal you then have to compete to sell. Or if both are selling the same item, sometimes it just sits as we collectors get an idea that there are plenty around & we can buy later. This usually happens on new finds.

There are so many factors. Try to convince him that you need to know the real story if you feel you are not getting. Let him know it is a small hobby & everyone talks. ALso there are only so many guys out buying groups. Not many want to be dealers. Since he has already contacted people on ebay but not auctioned any himself there is an ethics problem already as this is against ebay policy.

I buy chips nearly everyday. I am working on a silver strike collection with some chips & tokens today.

The "you make the offer first" deal is usually how it goes. I don't know how others can get the person to set the price. I am the one advertising to "buy" I then have to offer what I will "pay". They often say "you have the knowledge so you set the price". IT can be real tough & take weeks sometimes. Or more! If you don't get a deal then it just wasn't meant to be. Another will soon come along. It's a game like anything else. Sure is fun though to land a deal especially if you get a good one & can double your money. Or trade off chips & add to your collection.

Remember this though: It costs money to make money. There are little fee's for everything these days. What you think one or two will bring is totally different than even 20 chips. It has to be in demand & not a chip that is all around.

As for what to pay. Each individual does things on a different level. Some won't touch a deal on anything unless they know they can double their money. Others have stores, etc. & over head so have to buy much lower. Some want everything for ten cents on the dollar. We are all different & handle deals differently. Each deal too is a different deal.

If I can help in any way let me know.

Good Luck & I hope they are great chips.
