Re: No License Listed...some Winnemucca history.

Bridge St. is the old street that crosses the main road, Winnemucca Blvd. through town which is parallel to the highway East & West. Hwy 40 now 80.
Monte's (known as Ideal Club, 1948) is in postcard photo's I have of the 40's & maybe late 30's. Sorry my cards are in Vegas & I am not or could show you some super pictures showing these old signs with all the names on them. Still many old bars there on this street. Club's maybe chippers are more familiar with are Sundance Casino- still called this, on the corner at the Winnemucca Blvd. T.J's Dirty Bird was in same building, on that street. Bar now. No games in Sundance either & no chips for sale. Star Hotel & Star Broiler & later just Star was across the street, rebuilt after fire at building now there. No casino now. Humboldt Hotel other corner burned. A bank now. Also on corner was Sonoma Inn later Winner's. Owner had this & Star as marked on chips with both names.
And down- toward river on right was Pepper's & Boondock's. Also Overland- no chips yet. Monte's was across the street from Pepper's area. Atomic Club, Scotty's, The Mint were all down this block. Ferris Hotel was down the street closer to the river. Gem Bar was further down on Bridge St. too & is possibly the oldest licensed Northern Nevada casino after gaming was again legalized in 1931. Chips marked GEM. Also had the first sports book.

This covers about a third of Winnemucca's chips. Town named after Indian Chief Sarah Winnemucca. Town started about 1864.

I have been all over the state about 10 times. An experience everyone should take. AM taking a friend from Chicago around in a few month's. It is so different. Especially after hearing all these chip names you can go see for your self what is still there, and what is all gone.
