Re: Old Poker Chip Terms
In Response To: Old Poker Chip Terms ()

Thanks, Don. I had looked at that page before I made my post, but I didn't notice that Howdy was referring to the mold (the plain flat rim) when he used the term "crest and seal." I still disagreee, though, that these plain die cut/reverse die cut chips can be called "crest and seal."

I also noticed from Harvey's Guide that the George and Co, called their flower rim mold chips "crest and seal".

Anyway, just about everyone today who uses the term "crest and seal" thinks of it in terms of the inlay, not the rim. And all of the gambling supply supply houses that used the term in their catalogs (see my post above where I give the pages in Harveys Guide) (1) used the term "crest and seal" for their litho inlay chips and (2) used other terms for their plain one-color inlay die-cut and reverse die-cut monogram chips.

So, in conclusion, I suggest we follow suit with what the gambling supply houses (and most chip collectors) say as to -- crest and seal chips must have a litho inlay. And I think we should follow suit with what absolutely every chip collector agrees with -- that crest and seal chips must have flat, plain, unembossed rim molds. (If we accepted embossed rim mold chips (like the hub, small crown, greek key, etc.) with inlays as crest and seal chips, then most of our casino chips with an inlay (for example, the Paulson hat and cane ones with round inlays) would be be called crest and seal chips!)
