My Viewpoint...What is a Silver Strike?

Numismatically any medal or coin struck from silver.

I prefer to call these tokens since their inception "Silver Premium Gaming Tokens" (SPT for short).

My reasoning behind this is when I first started collecting these things, whenever I asked a dealer at the convention in 1992 and 1993 if they had silver strikes they would bring out the older $5 and $25 gaming token and not the Silver Strikes (Silver Premium Gaming Tokens) as are so noted today.

Now for the O'Shea's "Silver Strike Tournament".

Differing from Jerry's point of view, I do NOT consider the $2 and $3 Brass tokens "Silver Strikes" or "SPT's".

I do prefer to think of these tokens being released recently in small numbers of 50 to 150 (maybe more) "CHASE TOKENS". Back beginning with the Plaza 2 fer 1 limited to 100 tokens. There was NO way I was going to go to Las Vegas and attempt to play for one as it's not in my budget. I cannot afford to attempt to empty a machine of 50 tokens in order to obtain only one in the hopper.

If these tokens are approved from gaming and have a redeemable value then I will be placing them too in my price guide of "SILVER PREMIUM GAMING TOKENS".

I read from Janel Cole's post regarding the tournament that everyone entered will receive a $10 Silver Strike limited to 150. However, I am not so sure what the token for the 50 top placers will be. Her letter didn't not state whether or not that this token would have a value. If not it will not be included in the guide.

Archie, I want to ask you if YOU do not accept these O'Shea's tokens as Silver Strikes are they eligible to be entered into the the CLUB's TOKEN OF THE YEAR contest aside from the Silver Strike Chapter SILVER STRIKE OF THE YEAR?

Anchor Gaming has told me that they OWN the rights to the term "SILVER STRIKE", and if they have any association with the tokens being issued in this tournament, I guess that they both, O'Shea's and Anchor Gaming, have to right to call the tokens a "SILVER STRIKE" or "SILVER STRIKE TOURNAMENT".

Also, another point on Jerry's point of view I differ with.

$200.00 Silver Strike tokens were NEVER won out of the slot machines. They were handed to the winner by employees of the Casino. Not too much difference here with this tournament?

I think those BIG BLUE CASE's would have been a real problem for the Slot Machine manufacturer's to over come finding a way for them to come out of the hopper! rofl

I've read another point regarding not being being allowed to sell these items in the gift shops.

Several people purchased the Reno Clown error Silver Strike at the gift shop at Circus Circus. The $200.00 El Dorado tokens were also being sold in the gift shop as were the combination of the $10 Pavarotti Silver Strike and $25 Pavarotti Chip. I am not sure about Nevada Gaming regulations and selling LIVE Chips and Tokens from the Gift Shops but I've been told it's frowned upon by gaming, yet it does go on. As of today I don't believe these tokens or chips have yet to be discontinued.

LAST Question...

Will I be playing in this tournament? YES

Hope to see lots of my friends in Vegas even if NOT at this tournament.
