Aladdin woes, my opinion....

Dick,

I agree with Andy's comment about parking access; it sucks. This tends to keep tourists with cars away, because they miss the turn and end-up elsewhere. I also tend to think that the people they do manage to attract to the hotel may not spend time in the casino. This has to do with the fact that the Aladdin is right next to the Paris casino, which is next to Bally's. And across the street is the Bellagio. Nearby is Caesar's, Flamingo, Harrah's and the Ventian.

There are too many places centrally located to the Aladdin to keep the hotel guests in the casino. And once they are out on the Strip, then they are gone for the day and to tired to play when they get back.

Also, passers by on the Strip tend to do just that (pass by) because the Aladdin's front offers nothing to drag people in except for steps and a porportionaly small entrance. The front looks good from across the street, but why cross the street when the Bellagio is so close? When you are in front of the Aladdin, the Bellagio looks more inviting and the Eiffel Tower of the Paris looks even more inviting.

Therefore, the Aladdin does not bring people in from the street (those walking). It does not bring people in from the street (those driving). And those that are staying there tend to leave for other locations.

Lastly, as far as the Desert Passage is concerned, I can't imagine Las Vegans ever shopping there. The shops are full of over-priced tourist merchandise. Just where would an Aladdin (or any other property) expect to make money? Off the casino, the hotel, their string of gift shops, etc.? It looks like the Aladdin is short on all three.

This of course is just my opinion.

Regards, Jim Follis
