Re: Artichoke Joe's 5¢ chip
In Response To: Artichoke Joe's 5¢ chip ()

Good Morning Robert,

The Artichoke Joe's 5 cent chip was manufactured by Paulson for Joe to use in his "poker game". As I am sure you know, one individual obtained ALL of the 1 cent and 5 cent chips of the series you show in your scan. I believe it was THIS transaction that really turned off Joe to chip collectors. To the best of my knowledge the chips were manufactured in two different runs. However, this would not account for the many differences or variances in position of the 5 cent denomination.
I believe the chip was produced in the FIRST run with no denomination.I have seen a few without the 5 cent hot stamped upon it.

I do not believe it made a difference. The 5 cent had to be added after in both runs because of its size in relation to the rest of the hot stamp on the chip.

The 1 cent and 5 cent have held their price and will continue to do so because of the one person control stated earlier. However, in my opinion the chip is underpriced because not many were made at all. Therefore, whether one person has them all or not the value should be higher. I believe when I bought mine I was told two racks of each, the 1 cent and 5 cent, were produced and "purchased" by this individual. Hope all this helps. My best to you Robert. Jim
